Frequently Asked Questions
Headshots are more important than ever, no matter whether you're in the entertainment industry or in business. If you want to get noticed by agents, casting directors or need a corporate headshot for the upcoming shareholder report, company website or your LinkedIn profile - professional headshots are a must.
However, the process can be daunting and confusing, especially if you're not used to it. That's why I've come up with a list of frequently asked questions which will hopefully put your worries to rest and provide comprehensive answers to the most common queries.
1. How should I prepare for the session?
In order to look your best make sure you're well rested when you arrive for the shoot. Drink plenty of water as it does wonders for your skin and avoid alcohol the night before. If you're an actor think about what your headshot is for. Is it a general purpose headshot or are you auditioning for a particular role? It'll help me capture the right mood during the session.
2. What do I wear for my session?
Wear clothes that make you feel good and match your character but beware of busy patterns. Solid colours work best, however, avoid black or white tops as they tend to lose detail in the highlights and shadows of your photograph. Also, ensure that your clothes are neatly pressed. Keep jewellery to a minimum, it's easy to distract from the main subject in the image - you. You can bring several changes of clothes and we'll get through as many looks as we can in the session.
3. What about hair and make up?
Hair and make up is not included in the session fee. For the most part, men can get away with no make up but for women I recommend bringing a make up bag for touch ups during the session. You can bring your own make up artist if you like or I can recommend someone locally for an additional fee.
4. How much retouching do you do?
Your pictures will look great straight out of the camera but after the shoot I'll go through them and remove any blinky or blurry ones. I'll then colour correct them and you'll be able to choose a number of images for retouching. Depending on the package that could be between 1 and 3 pictures and additional images can be included for a fee.
Your headshot should make you look your best without looking fake. I'll take care of blemishes, remove or reduce wrinkles, dark circles and stray hairs as well as even out your skin tone.
5. How long does it take to get my images?
From the day of the shoot it'll take between 5 and 7 days for you to receive the final retouched images. I offer a next business day rush service for digital images for an additional fee.
6. Do you shoot in colour or black and white?
Everything is shot in colour but I can create black and white versions easily, depending on the look you're going for. Although black and white headshots were once the norm in the entertainment industry, the trend has been going strongly towards colour images and I recommend a selection of both. For business customers it's colour every time.
7. Do you provide prints or digital images?
I generally provide digital images but prints can be ordered in a variety of sizes at request.
8. Do you offer additional high resolution images?
Yes, high resolution images are print ready and can be ordered at an additional fee.
9. Do you work evenings or weekends?
I understand that sessions may need to take place outside office hours and I can be flexible with session times. Just state your requirements on the contact form and I am happy to accommodate you.
10. Where does the session take place?
The session can take place at your home or office, on location or at my home. My studio set up is completely mobile and can be put up in no time at all.
